Parasite fame actress Park So Dam opens up about cancer diagnosis
text_fieldsSeoul: South Korean actress Park SO Dam, known for her work on the Oscar-winning movie Parasite, recently came back to the silver screen with the movie Phantom. She also spoke about her cancer diagnosis in detail.
During the interview, Park said she struggled with pain during shooting for Phantom but dismissed it as burnout. She also frequently felt anxious due to the worsening state of her health. The 31-year-old admitted to neglecting her discomfort by terming them as "just psychological problems."
The actress said she kept apologising to seniors and directors for her health struggles but completed the shoot of Phantom and joined the post-production dubbing process. She also mentioned almost losing her voice amidst the process. Park revealed that she was not sure about watching the completed film but director Lee Hae Young reassured her about the performance.
Her health condition was revealed late in 2021 by her agency Artist Company. She was diagnosed with papillary thyroid cancer and underwent surgery. Park had to stay away from the public eye for a complete year to recover. In December 2022, she made her first appearance after the diagnosis and apologised to fans for making them worry.
Speaking about her attitude towards work, Park said in her early days in the industry, people called her a civil servant because of her diligence. She admitted to not understanding when people told her to take it easy. On the 10th anniversary of her debut in 2023, she has decided to reflect more on herself and take better care of her health.
