New Delhi: Indian Railways, on Monday, announced the elevation of the total number reservation limit of passengers from 12 to 24 tickets per month. This online booking update applies only to passengers, who have their user IDs linked to their Aadhaar.

"To facilitate passengers, Indian Railways has decided to increase the limit of booking maximum 6 tickets in a month to 12 tickets by a user ID which is not Aadhaar linked and the limit of booking maximum 12 tickets in a month to 24 tickets by a user ID which is Aadhaar linked and that one of the passengers in the ticket to be booked is verifiable through Aadhaar," spoke the ministry about the update.

IRCTC has also announced charges for passengers who carry luggage beyond the prescribed limit. Passengers who fail to register information on extra luggage will be charged six times the normal rate hereafter.

Rs 30 is the minimum charge assigned for additional luggage.

Luggage weighing around 35 to 70 kg is allowed free of charge, depending on the limits set in each class. Around 70 kg is permitted for free in AC first class, 50 kg in AC two-tier, and 40 kg in AC three-tier sleeper compartments.

Second-class passengers can carry around 30 kg free of charge. The allowances made will help frequent travellers to book more tickets in future.
