Geneva: The United Nations has said that at least 100 children have been killed in Gaza due to airstrikes and other violence since the ceasefire began about three months ago.
Speaking to reporters in Geneva from Gaza City, UNICEF spokesperson James Elder said that more than 100 children had lost their lives since the ceasefire came into effect in early October, amounting to roughly one child being killed each day despite the truce.
He stated that the deaths were caused by a range of attacks, including air and drone strikes—some involving suicide drones—as well as tank shelling and the use of live ammunition, AFP reported.
According to Gaza’s Health Ministry, more than 440 people have been killed since Israel and Hamas agreed last October to halt their two-year-long conflict. The ministry said both sides have continued to accuse each other of breaching the ceasefire, which remains in its initial phase as efforts are ongoing to recover the remains of the final Israeli hostage in Gaza.
The health ministry further reported that the total Palestinian death toll from the Israel–Hamas war has reached at least 71,391, with an additional 171,279 people injured.
