UK PM Rishi Sunak's wife Akshata Murti is richer than the late Queen of Britain. Akshata Murthy is the daughter of N. R. Narayana Murthy, a founder of the Indian multinational IT company Infosys.
The tech billionaire's daughter holds a 0.93% stake in the second-largest Indian IT company. This makes her one of the wealthiest women in Britain. She also has shares in several other businesses in the UK. She is also a director of Digme Fitness and the Soroco that her brother Rohan Murty co-founded.
Sunak and Murty are the 22nd richest people in Britain with a combined fortune of £730m as of 2022. The late Queen was estimated to be worth £350m.
Since he was chosen by Tory members to lead the country, there have been many questions about his wealth and his ability to understand the problems of commoners. The couple is known to throw a garden party every year at their £1.5m manor in Yorkshire - giving him the nickname the "Maharaja of the Dales".
Akshata Murty met Rishi Sunak at Stanford University. With the investment banker, the Britain-based businesswoman owns Kirby Sigston Manor in the village of Kirby Sigston, North Yorkshire and a mews house in Earl's Court in central London. The couple also has a flat on Old Brompton Road, South Kensington, and a penthouse apartment on Ocean Avenue in Santa Monica, California. The duo moved to a newly refurbished West London home in April 2022. Around the same time, it was reported that she is a non-domiciled resident of the UK which means she does not need to pay tax on her income outside Britain. However, she responded by saying that she pays UK tax on her worldwide income voluntarily.
In July 2021, Sunak was made Chief Secretary and he set up a blind trust - a trust independently administering the private business interests of a person in public office to prevent conflict of interest. Critics say it is a risk of conflict.
