Trump shares his happiness over Nigeria's ban on Twitter

Washington: Former US President Donald Trump on Tuesday welcomed Nigeria's ban on Twitter and added that more countries should do the same.

Nigeria suspended Twitter indefinitely on June 4 after Twitter removed a post by President Muhammadu Buhari referring to the Nigerian civil war from 1967-70, warning those who wanted the government to fail from desisting tormenting trouble. The decision is in the interest of national security and peace, said Nigerian Minister of Foreign Affairs Geoffrey Onyeama.

"Congratulations to the country of Nigeria, who just banned Twitter because they banned their President. More COUNTRIES should ban Twitter and Facebook for not allowing free and open speech - all voices should be heard," Trump said. Trump has been suspended on all social media, including Facebook. Facebook banned him from all its platform for two years, the highest possible penalty. Once the suspension is lifted, there will be a set of rapidly escalating sanctions that shall be triggered in case of future violations.

Trump, meanwhile, is also banned on Twitter. In the meantime, "competitors will emerge and take hold. Who are they to dictate good and evil if they themselves are evil? Perhaps I should have done it while I was President. But Zuckerberg kept calling me and coming to the White House for dinner, telling me how great I was. 2024?" he said.
