Manama: A woman was killed, and dozens were injured after Iranian attacks targeted parts of the Gulf region, including Bahrain, Qatar and Kuwait, early Monday, officials said.
Bahrain’s Interior Ministry said a 29-year-old woman was killed when a residential building in Manama was struck. At least eight others were injured in the incident.
In another attack around 12:30 a.m., a drone struck a residential area in Sitra, injuring 32 people, including a two-month-old baby, according to the Health Ministry. Four people are in critical condition. A 17-year-old girl suffered severe head and eye injuries, while two children aged seven and eight sustained serious leg injuries. The wounded were taken to hospitals where they underwent emergency surgeries, and a special medical team was deployed for their treatment.
Bahrain’s main oil refinery, operated by Bapco, was also targeted later in the morning. An oil storage tank was severely damaged, triggering a fire that was quickly contained by Civil Defense teams. Officials said the damage may affect some foreign contracts but will not disrupt domestic fuel supplies. No casualties were reported in the refinery attack.
The Kuwaiti military stated that it intercepted missiles and drones detected in its airspace, adding that the explosions heard across the country were caused by air defence systems destroying the incoming threats. No casualties were reported.
Qatar’s Ministry of Defense said Iran had launched 17 ballistic missiles and six drones toward the country by Monday afternoon, but all were intercepted. The first attack was detected around 3:30 a.m.
Qatari Prime Minister Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman bin Jassim Al-Thani condemned the strikes, calling them a “betrayal of trust” and noting that regional countries had made clear they would not join a war against Iran.
