Moscow: During a meeting with Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov in Moscow, India's External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar emphasised Russia's backing for various stances in India's global interactions.
Addressing the media, Jaishankar highlighted the significance of an international north-south corridor, expressing its pivotal importance in altering global politics and the prevailing world order.
Speaking ahead of the scheduled discussions, Jaishankar articulated the focus on strengthening bilateral cooperation across diverse domains, aiming to adapt to evolving circumstances and requirements.
"Our discussions will encompass the global strategic scenario, addressing existing conflicts and tensions, particularly those concerning various regions. We will also deliberate on developmental hurdles faced by countries in the Global South. Furthermore, we'll engage in conversations about the status of multilateralism and the development of a multi-polar world order," he said.
Commending India's role within the G-20, Russian Foreign Minister Lavrov endorsed New Delhi's aspirations for a permanent seat at the UN Security Council.
Jaishankar's ongoing five-day visit to Russia has included comprehensive and fruitful dialogues, notably a meeting with Russian Deputy Prime Minister Manturov, focusing on bolstering bilateral economic cooperation. The discussions culminated in the signing of multiple agreements associated with the development of future power-generating units at the Kudankulam nuclear power plant in Tamil Nadu.
