Putin will officially annex 4 Ukraine regions today following "bogus' referenda

Moscow: Russian President Vladimir Putin will round out his failed Ukraine invasion by annexing four regions of occupied Ukraine at a ceremony on Friday.

The regions to be annexed by Russia are Donetsk, Luhansk, Zaporizhzhia and Kherson

A helpless Ukraine called the ceremony to be happening for the annexation a "Kremlin freak show", according to Reuters.

Analysts believe Putin's move will open a predictable new phase in the conflict since the occupation of Ukraine, where the invading Russian army started facing reversals.

Putin will preside over a treaty-signing just three days after pro-Russians in Ukraine declared that referendums showed up to 99 per cent of people in these areas preferred to join the Russian Federation.

Ukraine and Western governments alleged these "bogus", and "illegitimate" referendums were conducted at gunpoint. U.S. Secretary of State Antony Blinken called referendums as "sham' and " futile effort" to mask Russia's land grab in Ukraine.

Moscow says people chose freely to return to their "historic motherland", according to Reuters.

The annexation ceremony will take place St George's Hall of the Grand Kremlin Palace today at 3 pm, which will remind observers of Russia's annexing of Crimea eight years ago after a similar invasion and vote.

The annexation comes at a time when Russian is facing reversals at the warfront in Ukraine.

Ukraine routed Russian forces in the northeastern Kharkiv region blunting Russia's military acumen.

Following annexation of four regions today, Russian forces will run through the territory that Russian calls its own, according to Reuters.

Putin has declared that he will defend the annexed regions with nuclear weapons which the western leaders called a "bluff" warning of "catastrophic consequence" if a nuclear is used.

It is not yet sure if Putin will attend a celebratory concert on the square on Friday evening.
