Manila: A deepfake audio featuring Philippine President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. ordering military action against China raised concerns in the country about its implications on the country’s foreign policy, NDTV reported.
The fabricated audio clip has the voice of Marcos Jr. directing his military to intervene if China poses a threats to his country.
Marcos Jr. was heard saying that he cannot ‘tolerate further harm to Filipinos by Beijing’.
"We cannot compromise even a single individual just to protect what rightfully belongs to us," the voice in the audio released on YouTube channel said.
An accompanying slideshow of photos showed Chinese vessels in the South China Sea, NDTV reported citing the South China Morning Post .
The Presidential Community Communications Office (PCO), issuing a warning to public, confirmed on Tuesday night that the audio was entirely fake.
"It has come to the attention of the Presidential Communications Office that there is video content posted on a popular video streaming platform circulating online that has manipulated audio designed to sound like President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jnr," the PCO reportedly stated.
It added that no such directive to Armed Forces of the Philippines to act against a particular country has been made.
The PCO said its Media and Information Literacy Campaign is working to combat fake news, misinformation and disinformation.
"We are also closely coordinating and working with government agencies and relevant private sector stakeholders to actively address the proliferation and malicious use of video and audio deepfakes and other generative AI content," it reportedly said.
