Lahore: A court in Lahore ordered police not to arrest former Pakistan prime minister Imran Khan after a burning drama on the streets here, where police laid siege at the residence of Khan to arrest him, NDTV reported.
Police called in reinforcement to the streets of Lahore, where Khan's residence is, to disperse the agitated supporters of the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaaf leader.
As the high drama was on, Khan took to Twitter today to make grave allegations against the police.
Khan's surging supporters blocked police's attempts to arrest him from his Lahore residence, throwing stones at them, and police shot back with water cannons.
Amid the face-off between his supporters and police, Khan tweeted visuals of bullet shells, claiming they could prove the police's "mala fide intent".
"Clearly ', arrest' claim was mere drama because the real intent is to abduct & assassinate. From tear gas & water cannons, they have now resorted to living to fire. I signed a surety bond last evening, but the DIG refused to even entertain it. There is no doubt of their mala fide intent," he reportedly said.
The former cricketer is wanted in the Toshakhana corruption case after Pakistan's election commission found him guilty of selling gifts he received from foreign dignitaries during his term as prime minister, according to a report. Khan dodged a summons issued to him by an anti-corruption court last week.
The trouble for the police started after Khan issued a video message last evening calling upon his supporters 'come out', asking them to prove that 'people' still alive.
Soon after his call, Khan's supporters flooded the streets in Islamabad, Peshawar and Karachi.
