Imran Khan to move Bombay HC against FRRO notice to leave India
Mumbai: Actor Imran Khan is preparing to challenge a government directive requiring him to leave India by October 28, following his participation in a protest in Mumbai, according to reports.
The actor, who holds Overseas Citizenship of India (OCI) status and is not an Indian citizen, has engaged MZM Legal LLP to represent him in a proposed writ petition before the Bombay High Court. The Foreigners Regional Registration Office (FRRO) issued the notice, citing alleged violations of immigration law linked to his presence at a demonstration demanding the resignation of Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar.
The protest took place at August Kranti Maidan on October 10, when police detained Khan in connection with the demonstration. The FRRO invoked provisions of the Immigration and Foreigners Act, 2025, in its action against the actor.
Zulfiqar Memon, managing partner of MZM Legal, declined to comment on the matter when contacted.
Separately, BJP leader and former MP Kirit Somaiya wrote to Union Home Secretary Govind Mohan on October 13, seeking a Look Out Circular (LOC) against Khan. He also urged the authorities to prevent the actor from travelling abroad until a complaint and a related Mumbai police investigation are completed.
Somaiya asked immigration officials to alert the police if Khan attempts to leave the country.
