Oman condemns US-Israeli attacks on Iran; calls for diplomacy

Muscat: Oman has strongly condemned the recent attacks carried out by Israel and the United States on Iranian territory, urging restraint and calling for diplomatic solutions to escalating tensions in West Asia. The condemnation came during a joint ministerial meeting that brought together the Secretary General of the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC), GCC foreign ministers, and the foreign ministers of the United Kingdom, Morocco, Egypt and Jordan.

The Omani delegation at the meeting was led by Sheikh Abdulaziz Al Hinai, Ambassador at Large at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. In his remarks, Al Hinai said Oman firmly condemns the attacks targeting Iranian territory and reiterated the country’s principled position against military aggression in the region.

“Oman strongly opposes any attacks targeting any country in the region,” Al Hinai said, adding that the Sultanate also rejects the targeting of territories belonging to GCC and Arab countries for military operations.

He emphasised that diplomacy remains the only viable path to address the root causes of regional crises and prevent further escalation. According to Al Hinai, constructive dialogue and political engagement are essential to maintaining stability in a region already strained by multiple conflicts.

Oman also reaffirmed its longstanding position on the Palestinian issue during the meeting. The Omani representative called for urgent steps to reduce military tensions across the region and stressed the importance of protecting Palestinian civilians from ongoing attacks.

The ministers attending the meeting collectively reiterated the strong support of GCC countries for the Palestinian cause. They called for ensuring the safety and protection of the Palestinian people and urged an immediate halt to hostilities.

Participants also emphasised the need to strengthen international diplomatic efforts to ease tensions and promote stability. They stressed that achieving a just and comprehensive peace in the region must be based on internationally recognised legal resolutions and frameworks.

The meeting concluded with a shared call for intensified diplomatic engagement aimed at preventing further escalation and resolving ongoing regional crises through peaceful means.
