Machado dedicates Nobel Peace Prize to Donald Trump

World: Nobel Peace Prize winner Maria Corina Machado dedicated the prestigious award to US President Donald Trump, in a curious show of gratitude for his “decisive support”. She also dedicated the prize to the people of Venezuela.

President Donald Trump was passed over for the Nobel Peace Prize on Friday despite jockeying from his fellow Republicans, various world leaders and — most vocally — himself, the Associated Press reported.

“I dedicate this prize to the suffering people of Venezuela and to President Trump for his decisive support of our cause!” Machado wrote on X.

“We are on the threshold of victory and today, more than ever, we count on President Trump, the people of the United States, the peoples of Latin America, and the democratic nations of the world as our principal allies to achieve Freedom and democracy,” She wrote.

The White House responded bitterly to the news of the award on Friday, with communications director Steven Cheung saying members of “the Nobel Committee proved they place politics over peace” because they didn’t recognise Trump, especially after the Gaza ceasefire deal his administration helped strike this week, AP reports.

“He has the heart of a humanitarian, and there will never be anyone like him who can move mountains with the sheer force of his will,” Cheung wrote on social media.

Trump, who has long coveted the prestigious prize, has been outspoken about his desire for the honour during both of his presidential terms, particularly lately as he takes credit for ending conflicts around the world.

Meanwhile, the prestigious global peace prize winner Machado’s pro-Israel stance is now in the spotlight. It is noteworthy that she is a close acquaintance of Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and has not raised any criticisms of the Zionist power’s illegal occupations, including in Gaza. However, she had strongly criticised Hamas's attack on Israel on October 7.
