Washington: US Secretary of State Marco Rubio on Sunday said that the US is keeping an eye on ‘what is happening between India and Pakistan every single day’.
Rubio’s remarks comes after President Trump reiterated his claims of personally having helped averting a nuclear escalation between two countries during Operation Sindoor.
India has previously rebuffed the US claim saying that the military conflict with Pakistan following Pahalgam terror attack ended after Islamabad sought a ceasefire.
Despite India’s strong rebuttal, Pakistan reportedly gave Trump credit for ending the conflict.
'Ceasefire has to be maintained, which is very difficult. The U.S keeps an eye on what is happening between India and Pakistan every single day,' Marco Rubio told NBC News.
In a separate interview with Fox Business, Rubio praised President Trump for having made ‘peace and the achievement of peace a priority of his administration’, further claiming that ‘We've seen it in Cambodia and Thailand. We've seen it in India-Pakistan. We've seen it in Rwanda and the DRC’.
‘And we're going to continue to pursue any opportunities we can find to bring about peace in the world,’ Rubio was quoted as saying.
Referencing the Russia-Ukraine conflict, he said that ceasefire was possible only when both side agree to stop firing at one another, adding ‘And the Russians just haven't agreed to that.’
President Trump claimed about 40 times that he had ‘helped settle’ the conflict between India and Pakistan after a ‘long night’ of talks in the thick of the military conflict.
External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar said that there was no third-party intervention in the ceasefire with Pakistan during Operation Sindoor.
Subsequently, Prime Minister Narendra Modi told the Parliament that no leader of any country involved in bringing about the ceasefire asking India to stop Operation Sindoor.
