San Francisco: Amazon founder and billionaire groom-to-be Jeff Bezos is reportedly preparing to protect his $138 billion fortune as his engagement with girlfriend Lauren Sanchez approaches.
Bezos, 59, reportedly, the richest groom in history, did not have a prenuptial agreement in place for his previous marriage to MacKenzie Scott, which ultimately cost him a whopping $38 billion following the divorce.
Reports say that the Amazon.com Inc. founder will now take extensive measures to protect his multibillion-dollar fortune as he embarks on his second marriage with Sánchez, 53.
The engagement has now given their lawyers a riveting task, reports Hello! "Following his divorce with Scott, which cost him $38 billion due to the lack of a prenuptial agreement, Bezos is likely to opt for extensive legal measures to protect his $138 billion fortune," the report noted.
As reported by Page Six, Bezos and Sánchez sealed their engagement aboard the luxurious $500 million superyacht named the Koru.
Bezos and Sanchez revelled in their engagement at La Petite Maison in Cannes, France, last week accompanied by Bezos's sister, Christina Bezos Poore, and her husband, Steve Poore.
During the appearance at Cannes, Sanchez was seen proudly displaying a breathtaking 20-carat engagement ring worth an estimated $2.5 million.
The couple already shares joint property assets and philanthropic endeavors, adding to the complexity of their pending nuptial agreement.
Bezos’s net worth, as estimated by Forbes, stands at $138 billion, securing his position as the third-richest person in the world, trailing behind LVMH CEO Bernard Arnault and Tesla Inc. CEO Elon Musk.
Despite experiencing a $57 billion drop in his net worth last year because of a decline in Amazon’s stock price, Bezos maintains his elite status among the world’s wealthiest individuals.
Bezos holds a broad real estate portfolio valued at over $500 million, with properties in Beverly Hills, Manhattan, and Washington DC.
Sánchez is a successful businesswoman with substantial assets to safeguard.
Sanchez owns Black Ops Aviation, a company specializing in aerial videos, with high-profile clients such as ABC News Network, Sony Group Corp. and Netflix Inc, and also owns a grand $6.2 million home in Washington, acquired following her divorce from talent agent Patrick Whitesell.
Sanchez will be soon known as the first person to lead an all-woman space mission on Bezos-owned Blue Origin.
Earlier this month, Bezos was spotted sunbathing with Sanchez on his $500 million luxurious yacht in Spain. The couple was also spotted at the F1 Miami Grand Prix and at the global music festival Coachella in April.
