Ilhan Omar drafts articles of impeachment against Trump

Washington: Representative Ilhan Omar said she has drafted articles of impeachment against President Donald Trump. She had blamed him for his followers' militant attack at the US Capitol on Wednesday.

"We need to move quickly to remove this President from office," wrote Ilhan, a Democrat from Minnesota.

Congress members David Cicilline, Ted Lieu, Al Green, Hank Johnson, Ayanna Pressley, Rashida Tlaib, Vicente Gonzalez, Jamal Bowman, Mondaire Jones, Veronica Escobar, Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez and Cori Bush are co-sponsors of the resolution.

Several other Democrats have expressed their support to the resolution.

"Every single hour that Donald Trump remains in office, our country, our democracy, and our national security remain in danger. Congress must take immediate action to keep the people of this country safe and set a precedent that such behaviour cannot be tolerated," the invitation to join the resolution reads.

At least four people, including a woman, were killed as ruthless troublemakers stormed into the US Congress building, soon after Trump, addressing a rally of his die-hard supporters, urged them to march to the Capitol to register their protests and oppose the electoral "fraud" in the presidential elections.

Washington D.C. Mayor Muriel Bowser has publicised the extension of a public emergency in the American capital to 15 days, until the day after President-elect Joe Biden's inauguration on January 20.
