Tehran: Tensions between the United States and Iran have escalated sharply, with Tehran issuing a stark warning to Washington to withdraw from what it described as a “dangerous trap” set by US President Donald Trump or face severe consequences. Iran’s Communication Deputy Seyyed Mehdi Tabatabaei made the remarks in an official statement, signalling an increasingly confrontational stance amid the deepening crisis.
In unusually strong language, Iran lashed out at Trump, branding him a “child killer” while accusing the United States of believing it could subdue Tehran through force. Tabatabaei warned that any such attempt would be met with a powerful response, adding that the aggressive posture adopted by the Trump administration risked pushing the United States into a far more serious crisis.
The sharp rhetoric is rooted in a controversial missile strike allegedly carried out by the United States on a school in the southern Iranian city of Minab. The attack reportedly resulted in the deaths of 165 schoolgirls, triggering widespread outrage across Iran and fuelling public anger against Washington. Tehran has since used the incident to intensify its narrative against US actions in the region.
Iran has also demanded compensation for what it termed military aggression on its soil and called on the United States to withdraw its forces from the Middle East. Reinforcing this hardline stance, the country’s new Supreme Leader, Mojtaba Khamenei, who assumed power after the death of Ali Khamenei, declared that Iran’s missile capabilities and nuclear programme were non-negotiable and central to its national security.
Meanwhile, the situation has taken a strategic turn with Iran enforcing a blockade of the Strait of Hormuz, a move that has already sent shockwaves through global oil markets and economic systems. As Trump threatens to target Iran’s infrastructure, including power plants and bridges, Tehran has responded by updating its list of potential military targets, raising fears of a wider and more destructive conflict.
