Bangkok: The death toll from the fire that engulfed a music bar in Bangkok has risen to 30, according to city officials, while more than 70 people continue to receive treatment in hospitals.
Officials said 24 of the injured remain in critical condition.
The blaze broke out late on Sunday at the Rong Beer Na Ladprao bar in the northern part of the Thai capital. Firefighters reportedly took about 30 minutes to bring the fire under control. Authorities described it as Bangkok's deadliest fire in 17 years, Associated Press reported.
The venue, which describes itself as a brewery or beer hall, has a reported capacity of around 600 patrons, although officials have not confirmed how many people were inside when the fire broke out.
Authorities have launched an investigation into the cause of the fire and are also examining whether the establishment complied with safety regulations.
Police said many of those who lost their lives were found trapped inside windowless bathrooms, where they are believed to have sought refuge from the flames.
On Tuesday, former patrons and mourners visited the site to pay their respects, leaving flowers and handwritten condolence messages in Thai and several other languages, including Korean.
Debris from the damaged venue, including charred chairs and melted musical instruments, remained scattered near the site after being moved outside by officials conducting the investigation.
