Beijing: A barbeque restaurant in northwestern China is facing ire of social media users after it displayed a provocative poster with a controversial promotional slogan for alcohol.
The restaurant in Shaanxi Province put up a poster showing the back of a woman wearing revealing clothes with a slogan written on ‘Get yourself drunk to give him a chance’.
The South China Morning Post cited a woman working for the restaurant telling an online media outlet that the poster had been there for years without ever being criticised.
‘It depends on how you think about it. You don't have to take it seriously,’ she was quoted as saying.
A photograph of the controversial poster is doing rounds on social media.
The promotional slogan is roundly criticised for ‘instigating people to commit crimes’ alongside being a bad influence.
The report said that promotional slogan goes against the Chinese criminal law that states having sexual intercourse with a drunk woman amounts to rape, the perpetrator will get three to 10 years in prison.
The restaurant has taken down the advertisement after local administration stepped in.
Advertisements by eateries in China often stir up criticism and protest with Coffee chain Starbucks last month caused controversy with their campaign #ItStartsWithYourName.
It ran into trouble after some users raised protest against it saying they are upset about the promotional slogan.
