Washington: Vice President Kamala Harris has narrowly overtaken former US President Donald Trump in a national presidential poll, two days after President Joe Biden dropped out of reelection campaign, News agency AFP reported.
Harris managed two-point leads over Trump with 44 percent to 42 in the Reuters/Ipsos poll, boosting the democrat’s camps.
The new survey result comes after Trump formally accepted the party’s presidential nomination at the Republican National Convention with Biden on the other side leaving the race.
In the previous poll last week, the 78-year-old Trump and 59-year-old Harris reached 44 percent.
Another survey released on Tuesday showed Harris closing in Trump with a narrow difference, according to the report.
The frontrunner of Democratic nomination, Harris, is receiving endorsements and donations, giving huge competition to Trump.
Harris's performance boosted Democratic voters just as Trump was widely considered to be heading for White House.
Meanwhile, Trump edged over Harris with the support of 46 percent to 45 percent of registered voters in a PBS News/NPR/Marist poll conducted Monday.
The survey also showed 87 percent of all Americans terming Biden’s decision to leave the contest a right move.
While, 34 percent said Biden’s leaving will make no difference, 41 percent of respondents believe it increases Democrat’s chance of winning in November.
Notably both surveys came after Trump survived an attack at a rally in Pennsylvania on July 13.
