Moscow: National Security Adviser Ajit Doval, who is reportedly tasked with the mission to end the Russia-Ukraine conflict, met Russian President Vladimir Putin on Thursday.
They were seen together, shaking hands on the sidelines of the BRICS National Security Advisers' meeting, in a photo shared on X by the Russian Embassy in India.
Ajit Doval’s visit to Russia follows only couple of weeks after PM Modi visited Russian and Ukraine.
Back then, promising India’s ‘active role’ in bringing peace to the region, PM Modi told Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy that Russia and Ukraine should sit together to end the war.
It is reported that Doval is visiting the country as part of India’s efforts to end the war and he is bringing PM Modi’s peace plan to President Putin.
The Russian leader expressed hopes that PM Modi will attend the annual BRICS summit in Russia's Kazan next month and proposed a bilateral meeting with PM Modi on October 22 on the sidelines of BRICS summit.
The Russian Embassy said in a statement released on Telegram that both leaders at the meeting will review outcomes of their joint work over the implementation of agreements during PM Modi’s visit to Moscow.
Putin reportedly said that Russia was waiting for ‘our good friend (Narendra) Modi and best regards to him’.
Meanwhile, Doval on Wednesday discussed important issues of 'mutual interests' with his Russian counterpart Sergei Shoigu in St Petersburg.
