Las Vegas, USA: The Las Vegas Metropolitan Police arrested eight high school students for the murder of a 17-year-old stemming from an after-school fight on November 1.
Jonathan Lewis Jr was beaten unconscious earlier this month and was later succumbed to injuries, New York Times reported.
The students fought over a pair of stolen headphones, according to Lt. Jason Johansson of the Police Department.
The ages of the students, who were arrested from Rancho High School here, range from 13 to 17.
Police are yet to confirm the identity of two other individuals who may have involved in the fight, report said.
It is not yet clear what led Jonathan to involve in the altercation but his family reportedly said that he was helping a smaller child from being bullied.
Police suspect that the stole headphones and a vape pen were taken from one of Jonathan's friends.
Jonathan was attacked, according to official, when he began involved in the altercation.
“Ten subjects immediately swarm him, put him to the ground, and begin kicking, punching, and stomping him,’ Lieutenant Johansson reportedly said, adding ‘until the point where he becomes unconscious.’
Footage circulating on social media showed multiple individuals engaged in fighting.
As Jonathan was found ‘unconscious and unresponsive’ after the fight, students reportedly removed him to Rancho High School.
Later taken to hospital, he was declared having ‘nonsurvivable head trauma’.
As doctors declared him brain-dead, his family decided to donate his organs, the New York Times reported.
