27 dead in Israeli strike on Gaza school as it claims targeting ‘terrorists’

Palestinian Territories: Israeli military said on Thursday it had ‘"eliminated" several "terrorists" during a strike on a Hamas compound embedded inside a UN school, news agency AFP reported.

The military is learnt to have killed at least 27 people during what it said a ‘precise strike’ on the Hamas compound embedded inside UNRWA school in Nuseirat in Gaza. Meanwhile, UNRWA is the UN agency for Palestinian refugees.

After the Israeli ministry acknowledged the attack, Hamas media, calling the attack ‘horrific massacre’ claimed that at least 27 people were killed and dozens were wounded.

The attack by Hamas on October 7 sparked the bloodiest war the region ever witnessed claiming several thousand lives, wounding and displacing even more.

At least 1,194 people were killed and 251 people were taken hostage when Hamas carried out the attack and 120 of the hostages still remain in Gaza.

Israel in retaliatory attack continuing till date killed at least 36,586 people in Gaza mostly civilians.

Many countries and organisations came out openly protesting against Israel’s continuing attack on Gaza.

The latest attack in the vicinity of UN school is in line with Israel’s frequent allegation against Hamas that the outfit use schools, health facilities and other civilian infrastructure in Gaza as operational centres.

Meanwhile, talks involving US, Qatari and Egyptian mediators are underway for truce and deal for releasing hostages.

US President Joe Biden earlier described a three-phase Israeli plan to halt fight, exchanging hostages for Palestinian prisoners and stepping aid.

While G7 countries and Arab states back Biden’s proposal, Hamas demands a permanent truce and withdrawal of Israeli forces. Israel has reportedly rejected these demands.
