Washington: Police are looking for the gunman who killed at least 22 people in the US city of Lewiston, Maine on Wednesday evening.
The gunman is still at large after going on a killing rampage at a bowling alley and a local restaurant, AFP reported citing police.
TV channel CNN reported quoting City Councilor Robert McCarthy as saying ‘My understanding is that they have a tentative identification… of the shooter at the bowling alley, confirmed 22 dead, many, many more injured.'
Seeking inputs on the identity of the suspect, local police posted on Facebook the photo of a bearded man wearing brown top, blue pants and brown shoes carrying a gun.
Giving more details about the man, police released the picture of a white SUV car, which according to the authorities ‘may have been painted black’.
Police urged all businesses in the area to lock down or close as they investigate.
Although the magnitude of the shooting incident is yet to come, CNN reported citing authorities at least 50 to 60 people were injured.
It is not known how many of the injuries were the result of gunfire.
Rescuers and police sped to the Sparetime Recreation bowling alley at about 7:15 in the evening responding to the alert on an active shooter.
Shortly later there came reports about another shooting at the Schemengees Bar & Grille.
Again shooting was reported at Walmart distribution place at 8:15 pm, according to the report.
Gun violence is becoming more commonplace in the US reporting over 500 mass shootings this year, as per the Gun Violence Archive, a non-governmental organization.
A shooting incident is defined as mass shooting when four or more people are wounded or killed, according to the outfit.
