UDF to lead Satyagraha over no science batches in newly allotted plus one seats

Kozhikode: MLA M.K. Muneer questioned the government's stance on allowing only new arts batches, asking if the government believes students here shouldn't opt for the science stream for higher studies. He highlighted that the newly sanctioned batch only includes Commerce and Humanities, with no Science batch for Malappuram and Kozhikode.

Muneer announced in a press conference that a satyagraha (peaceful protest) will be held at the DDE office against the government's decision. The UDF has decided to organize the satyagraha in front of the Kozhikode DDE office on the 19th of this month from noon onwards.

"The higher secondary education in Malabar is facing a pressing crisis due to the inadequate number of Plus One seats for students who have successfully completed the tenth standard. We have sought the government's attention towards this issue several times. As a result, the government sanctioned new batches in Malappuram and Kasaragod. However, Malappuram district has yet to receive what has been long demanded, as the allotted batches are merely arts courses comprising Humanities and Commerce, with no Science batches. I have presented these concerns in the assembly with utmost importance and called for a detailed inspection of the shortage of seats by assigning a two-member special team across Kozhikode district. I presented the true picture of the shortfall of seats, describing the tallies and numbers in the assembly address. Post this, the minister asked me for written details on this, which I provided immediately, but I received no response," ha said.

"After Malappuram, Kozhikode is the district where most students are denied the opportunity for higher education. The minister affirmed that there are no issues, but the problem surfaced when the two-member team came to analyze the situation. Most of the seats across the southern region are vacant due to financial problems. The government had money to organize Keraleeyam, on which they had spent about 18 crores. I feel pity for the government when they embrace the education system of Kerala. The satyagraha will continue until a favorable decision is reached," MLA added.
