Malappuram: Meta has removed the Instagram account 'Kutti Sakhakkal' (little comrades), run by Tirur native Mohammed Ziyan, days after a video featuring children introducing a party office and introducing its little office-bearers went viral, drawing more than two million views within 24 hours. Ziyan and his family have appealed to Meta seeking restoration of the account. The term comrade is generally associated with communist politics.
The video, which featured children proudly presenting their party office and identifying a Balasangham president, quickly attracted widespread attention from adults as well. Prominent political figures, including the LoP in Kerala, Pinarayi Vijayan and P.A. Mohammed Riyas, both CPI(M) leaders, commented on the video and congratulated the children before the account suddenly became unavailable.
Claims have since circulated on social media that the account was removed for promoting Left-wing political ideas. Meta, however, has not publicly explained why the account was taken down, leaving the reason for the action unclear.
Ziyan has remained defiant over the loss of the page and indicated that he intends to continue creating videos. His father said the account had built significant reach and that the family had emailed Meta with details of the issue, seeking its return.
Ziyan first gained attention online during the previous election season after betting that V. Abdurahiman would win. The latest removal has also fuelled wider criticism on social media over Meta's handling of politically linked posts and accounts.
