Meta to announce more layoffs across Facebook, WhatsApp, Instagram: report

New York: The Facebook’s parent company, Meta Platforms Inc, will lay off more workers in order to restructure teams for ‘greater efficiency’.

A notification to managers, reportedly seen by Bloomberg News, asked them to prepare to announce the decision on Wednesday.

The upcoming job cuts across Meta’s different platforms will add to the enveloping pool of layoffs in the IT industry.

The job cuts will impact Facebook, WhatsApp, Instagram and Reality Labs, according to the report.

The latest job cuts follows an announcement to the effect by Zukerberg in March as part of cost cutting, eventually to remove 10,000 positions.

However, this is reportedly not going to be the last of layoffs as more cuts are expected in May as well.

As well as enforcing a freeze on hiring, Meta in November cut about 13 per cent of its employees which translates to 11,000 jobs.

With the job cuts, Zuckerberg aims to make the company ‘more lean’ alongside in a move to ‘rebalance its ratio of technologists and engineers to business and administrative staff’, according to the report.

Meanwhile, Zuckerberg in a post in March mentioned about ‘restructuring and layoffs’ in his tech groups in April and late May as well.
