Share Instagram Reels on WhatsApp with ease! New feature

Technology: WhatsApp is testing a new feature to make it easier to share Instagram Reels with friends and groups. The update introduces a dedicated Reels shortcut in the chat attachment menu, helping users find videos without navigating through the existing media picker.

Tapping the shortcut opens a dedicated screen with three categories: Recents, Saved and Liked. Users can browse Reels they have watched recently, saved for later or liked on Instagram, then select a video to share directly in individual chats or groups.

The feature is designed to simplify the process for users who frequently share Instagram content on WhatsApp. Previously, users with linked accounts could access Instagram media through WhatsApp’s media picker, but finding Reels required navigating through additional options.

To use the new shortcut, users must link their WhatsApp account to Meta’s Accounts Centre. Linking accounts remains optional. Those who prefer to keep their accounts separate can continue using WhatsApp normally, but will not have access to the dedicated Reels button.

The feature is currently rolling out to select Android beta testers and has been spotted in WhatsApp beta for Android version 2.26.42.9, available through the Google Play Store. However, downloading the compatible version does not guarantee immediate access, as the rollout is gradual.

The update forms part of Meta’s broader efforts to integrate its platforms more closely. WhatsApp has not announced when the shortcut will become available to all users or whether it will be introduced on iOS.
