Jio AI glass: Pay via UPI; translate 12 languages live!
New Delhi: Reliance Jio is pushing smart wearables into a new era with AI-powered glasses that can handle UPI payments, translate 12 languages and deliver hands-free information, potentially reducing users’ dependence on smartphones.
At the India Mobile Congress 2026 in Delhi, the company demonstrated how its smart glasses can scan UPI QR codes through an in-built camera and initiate payments using voice commands. Transactions are completed after user confirmation, with UPI Circle rules permitting payments of up to Rs 5,000 per transaction and Rs 15,000 per month.
The glasses also offer real-time translation in 12 languages, according to media reports, as well as AI-powered note-taking for meetings and live cricket commentary. These features are designed to help users access information while working, travelling or following sporting events without repeatedly checking their phones.
Reliance Jio plans to introduce two variants: premium JioFrames equipped with a camera and voice-only Jio Glasses. Both will run on JioReality OS, which is expected to reach stores by late 2026 or early 2027, subject to the company’s plans.
The devices are set to compete with Meta's Ray-Ban AI glasses and Samsung's upcoming XR products in the expanding smart-wearables market.
Meanwhile, Jio has outlined plans for India to become one of the first countries to introduce commercial 6G services by the end of the decade.
The next-generation networks could deliver up to five times the capacity of current 5G systems while reducing latency by nearly tenfold. Speeds could approach 100 gigabits per second, with Indian 6G trials expected around 2028 and commercial rollout potentially beginning between 2029 and 2030.
