iPhone 13 series to don matte black option with improved portrait mode

Apple will release the iPhone 13 Pro lineup with a matte black option and improved Portrait mode, a report streamed in the YouTube channel EverythingApplePro claims.

According to Max Weinbach's report, iPhone 13 Pro and Pro Max will come with the matte black option, a new stainless steel coating that reduces smudges and fingerprints and a fresh rear-camera design.

The portrait mode in the iPhone 13 Pro models will be based on LiDAR, which is currently used on the iPhone 12 Pro, Pro Max and iPad Pro. LiDAR is used for improved low-light image photography.

The iPhone 13 series would use Qualcomm's Snapdragon X60 5G modem. The series would be built on a 5nm process, and the X60 packs higher power efficiency into a smaller footprint. Thus the efficiency is better compared to the 7nm based Snapdragon X55 modem used in iPhone 12 models.

Weinbach also claims that the new iPhone models are supposed to have a fingerprint scanner embedded under the display for authentication and also Face ID.

While iPhone 13 series is to be released later this year, the report says that Apple has also experimented with a bronze or orange colour body, but it is not to be launched this year.

A MacRumors report says that according to Barclays, its research is at least partly based on "extensive industry conversations" with suppliers in recent weeks.
