In a groundbreaking move, four of India’s top space technology companies Kawa Space, Azista Industries, Kepler Aerospace, and Dfy Graviti - have united to establish the Bharat Space Collective (BSC).
This new organization aims to revolutionize space technology development and deployment, with a strong emphasis on creating solutions that address critical global challenges, particularly those highlighted in the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
The formation of the Bharat Space Collective marks a significant evolution in the Indian space industry. By combining their expertise and resources, the member companies of BSC are not only enhancing India's global standing in space technology but also positioning the country as a leader capable of delivering cutting-edge space products and services.
"We are thrilled to announce the creation of the Bharat Space Collective, a major leap forward for India’s space sector," said Kris Nair, Chairman of Bharat Space Collective and Founder of Kawa Space. "Collaboration is at the core of this initiative. By joining forces, we are not merely building products; we are innovating new categories within the space industry. This collective effort allows us to focus on innovation rather than competition, ultimately paving the way for world-class space applications that will elevate Brand India on the global stage."
The BSC is driven by a vision of unity and shared purpose. Drawing inspiration from the Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO), the collective seeks to scale ISRO's approach of using space technology for global betterment into the commercial sector. This ensures that India remains a leader in space exploration and its applications.
The collective's offerings span both upstream and downstream sectors, addressing key areas outlined in the UN SDGs. These include space-powered radio frequency (RF) geo-intelligence, artificial intelligence (AI) in space data, maritime security, agriculture monitoring tools, and products for mining and infrastructure. The BSC’s space assets encompass a wide range of sensors, including very high-resolution imaging, synthetic aperture radar (SAR), thermal imaging, and RF sensors.
In the future, the collective plans to expand its partnerships to include areas such as space sustainability and launch services.
Navneet Singh, CEO of Kepler Aerospace, emphasized the collective’s mission: "The BSC serves as a hub for collaboration, bringing together India’s space industry to create greater value collectively than we could individually."
Adithya Kothandhapani, Co-Founder of Dfy Graviti, added, "As members of the BSC, we are developing innovative solutions to address critical challenges in India and allied nations across sectors such as maritime, energy, and natural resources by leveraging advanced computing technologies."
