New Delhi: Google plans to invest USD 15 billion over the next five years in setting an artificial intelligence hub in Visakhapatnam, a senior official of the company said on Tuesday.
While speaking at a company event, Google Cloud CEO Thomas Kurian said that the new AI hub will combine AI infrastructure, new data centre capacity, large energy scale sources and expanded optical fibre network.
"We plan to invest USD 15 billion over the next five years in setting up an AI hub in Visakhapatnam," Kurian said.
The Government of Andhra Pradesh and Google on Tuesday signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) in New Delhi, to establish a massive AI-powered data centre in Visakhapatnam with an investment of ₹87,520 crore.
The MoU was signed in the presence of Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu, Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman, Union IT and Railways Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw, and Andhra Pradesh IT Minister Nara Lokesh, along with Google Cloud CEO Thomas Kurian and senior company officials.
