Cricketer Pat Cummins' covid support most retweeted in 2021: Twitter

Australian cricketer Pat Cummins' tweet about his donation to Covid-19 relief in India was the most retweeted in the country in 2021, Twitter revealed on Wednesday. Further, the microblogging platform said that Indian cricketer Virat Kohli's announcement of the birth of his daughter was the most-liked tweet of the year while #COVID19, #FarmersProtest, and #TeamIndia were the most retweeted hashtags, Gadget360⁰ reported.

Pat Cummins tweet in April, during the pandemic second wave, was retweeted 1,14,000 times to date, and it was quoted over 21,900 tweets making it the most quoted tweet in the year too. Virat Kohli's tweet about his daughter had gathered 5,38,200 likes so far. Also, his tweet about his wife Anushka Sharma's pregnancy was the most liked in 2020.

The most retweeted government tweet was Prime Minister Narendra Modi's, who shared a picture of himself getting his first Covid-19 vaccine, and it had won 45,100 retweets so far. PM's congratulation tweet for the Indian cricket team for their test win against Australia gathered 2,98,000 likes to become the most liked government tweet. Ratan Tata's tweet, welcoming back Air India into Tata Group in October, became the most retweeted (82,900 times) and liked (4,03,900 likes) tweet in business. Tamil actor Vijay's tweet unveiling the first look poster of his new movie 'Beast' became the most retweeted (over 1,39,400 retweets) and liked (over 3,41,500 likes) one in entertainment. Virat Kohli's appreciation tweet of Dhoni's match-winning performance during IPL became the most retweeted and liked tweet in sports, with over 91,600 retweets and 5,29,500 likes.

Among hashtags, #Afghanistan made it with India's most tweeted current affairs hashtags after the Taliban took over Afghanistan. Other prominent current affairs hashtags were #CGL19marks regarding job aspirants demand to release marks of their Combined Graduate Level (CGL) exams, #IndianArmy for border clashes, #Uttarakhand regarding the floods in the state. #Bitcoin, #BSC, #NFT etc., were the most tweeted digital assets hashtags.

The five most tweeted emojis were 'folding hands' emojis at first, followed by 'laughing' and 'fire' emojis. 'Love eyes' and 'thumbs up' finished fourth and fifth.

Twitter ranked most retweeted and liked tweets based on engagement on the platform, while hashtags and emojis were based on the total number of authors. The period for retweets, likes, hashtags and emoji's was January 1 to November 15.
