Wrestler's protest: Delhi police says it "will register FIR today"

New Delhi: Delhi Police told the Supreme Court that an FIR will be registered today over the complaints by protesting women wrestlers about the alleged sexual harassment by Wrestling Federation of India President Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh.

The Supreme Court had issued a notice to the Delhi Police in the matter. Chief Justice of India (CJI) D Y Chandrachud called the allegations "serious."

The athletes have been staging a sit-in at the Jantar Mantar for days. They have also been sleeping on the street after their earlier complaints did not see any results. The wrestlers are also protesting against the delay from the government in releasing the report of the probe committee, loss of faith in the committee, and absence of action.

The seven women athletes are seeking the registration of an FIR against Brij Bhushan who is also the BJP MP from Kaiserganj, UP. They filed separate complaints on April 21 accusing him of sexual harassment and criminal intimidation over a decade from 2012 to 2022.

The WFI resumed its activities despite the ongoing probe. Wrestlers alleged that Brij Bhushan is still making the decisions.
