Protesting wrestler taken to accused BJP MP's house, asked to narrate sexual harassment events

New Delhi: Delhi Police took protesting wrestler Sangeeta Phogat to WFI chief Briji Bhushan Singh's official residence to narrate the sequence of events that led to sexual harassment.

"At 1.30 pm women officers took Sangeeta Phogat to Brij Bhushan's official residence in Delhi. They were there for half an hour. They asked her to recreate the scene and recall the places where she faced harassment," said sources to NDTV.

She was accompanied by women constables.

Wrestlers Vineh Phogat and Bajrang Punia on Friday slammed the rumours that Sangeeta was seen at the WFI chief's residence to compromise. They said Brij Bhushan is using his power to change the narrative.

"This is the power of Brijbhushan. He is busy harassing women wrestlers by using his muscle power, political power and running false narratives, so his arrest is necessary. If the police arrests him instead of breaking us, there is hope of justice, otherwise not. Women wrestlers had gone to the crime site for police investigation, but it was run in the media that they had gone to compromise," tweeted another protesting wrestler Vinesh Phogat.

The protestors have suspended the sit-in till June 15 after sports minister Anurag Thakur promised to carry out an investigation. The Special Investigation Team is probing the sexual harassment allegations against the BJP and is expected to submit a report on two cases by next week.

Seven women including a minor have accused the WFI chief of sexually harassing them and have been demanding arrest. It is unusual for police to not arrest an accused when minors are involved in the case.
