McLaren's Oscar Piastri secured a dramatic victory at the Azerbaijan Grand Prix, overtaking pole-sitter Charles Leclerc's Ferrari on lap 20 and holding on for an intense win.
Mercedes' George Russell completed the podium in third, while Piastri's teammate, Lando Norris, finished fourth, narrowing Red Bull's Max Verstappen’s lead in the championship to 59 points.
The race saw late chaos as Ferrari's Carlos Sainz and Red Bull's Sergio Perez collided, bringing the race to a close under a virtual safety car. Leclerc had led early on after his fourth consecutive pole in Baku but was overtaken by Piastri, who then fended off the Monégasque driver for his second career win, following his first in Hungary.
Verstappen, now without a win in seven races, remains atop the 2024 drivers' standings with 313 points. Norris earned an extra point for the fastest lap, bringing his total to 254 points ahead of the Singapore Grand Prix. McLaren's strong performance also allowed them to overtake Red Bull in the constructor's championship race.
