Brazil defender Militao to miss World Cup after hamstring surgery

Madrid: Brazil and Real Madrid defender Eder Militao underwent surgery on Tuesday for a hamstring injury that is expected to rule him out of the upcoming World Cup.

According to Spanish media reports, recovery from such procedures typically takes several months. Brazil is scheduled to begin its World Cup campaign on June 14, leaving insufficient time for the 28-year-old to return to full fitness.

Militao sustained the injury during Real Madrid’s 2-1 victory over Alaves in a La Liga match last week.

In a statement, the club confirmed that the central defender had successfully undergone surgery for a rupture of the proximal tendon of the biceps femoris in his left leg. “Militao will begin his recovery work in the coming days,” Real Madrid said, without providing a specific timeline for his return.

The Brazilian international has struggled with injuries throughout his career, including serious knee problems.
