Miami and China to host sprint races in 2024 Formula One season

Organisers have revealed that the 2024 Formula One season will witness sprint races at the Miami and Chinese Grands Prix, as announced on Tuesday.

Continuing from the previous year, there will be six sprint races incorporated into the season, following the successful introduction of this format in 2022 during three race weekends.

The Azerbaijan and Belgian Grands Prix, having held one sprint each in 2023, will miss out on the Saturday sprint.

Mohammed Ben Sulayem, president of the FIA (motorsports' governing body), expressed his thoughts on this development, stating, "The addition of Shanghai will be a challenge for the teams and drivers as Formula One heads back to China for the first time since 2019, while a sprint in Miami will add a new dimension to an enthralling weekend."

The United States, Austrian, Brazilian, and Qatari Grands Prix are set to host sprints once again, offering eight championship points to the sprint race winner.

Looking forward to the upcoming season, Max Verstappen aims to secure a fourth consecutive drivers' world title after an extraordinary 2023 season. Verstappen's remarkable season saw him clinch victory in 19 out of 22 races and four sprint races, setting a record in Formula One history.
