Mumbai: In the opening match of the inaugural edition of the Women's Premier League (WPL), Mumbai Indians crushed fragile Gujarat Lions for a 143-run victory at the Dr DY Patil Sports Academy here on Saturday.
MI skipper Harmanpreet Kaur knocked an impressive fifty (65 off 30), and bowler Saika Ishaque exhibited a powering performance of 4/11, leading the team to victory.
MI posed a massive score of 207/5 in 20 overs, driven by Harmanpreet, Amelia Kerr (45 not out off 24) and Hayley Matthews (47 off 31).
Kaur's historic fifty powered Mumbai Indians to an imposing 207 for five in 20 overs. Apart from Harmanpreet, Amelia Kerr (45 not out of 24) and Hayley Matthews (47 off 31) played valuable knocks for MI.
During the chase, Gujarat batters fell like a house of cards, trying to shore the team. It lost four wickets inside the powerplay itself. They fell to 64/9 in 15.1 overs.
