IPL 2022: SRH beat CSK for 8 wickets; 1st win this season

Mumbai: Premiers Chennai Super Kings (CSK) had surrendered before next door in points table Sunrises Hyderabad and sustained their fourth consecutive loss in the Indian Premier League 2022's match 17 at the D.Y Patil Stadium in Mumbai on Saturday, IANS reported.

SRH chased CSK's 154/7 with a stubborn Abhishek Sharma (75 off 50) and Rahul Tripathy's (39 not out) entry in the final overs, sealing the game for SRH at 17.2 overs, losing only two wickets.

For SRH, skipper cum opener Kane Williamson and Abhishek added 89 runs on the first wicket before Tripathy and Abhishek shored the team home. SRH had their maiden win this season; after losing the last two, the team seemed to miss their usual openers, David Warner and Jonny Bairstow.

Earlier, SRH won the toss and decided to ball first, which seemed to have helped them. Their bowlers restricted CSK to the core, though a 62-run partnership by CSK's Moeen Ali and Ambati Rayudu gave relief to the yellow side. CSK seemed to have lost the legendary lustre they used to emit when they took the field. The usual vigour they bore didn't reflect during SRH chased the total.

Brief scores: Chennai Super Kings 154/7 in 20 overs (Moeen Ali 48, Ambati Rayudu 27, Ravindra Jadeja 23; Washington Sundar 2-21, T. Natarajan 2-30) lost to Sunrisers Hyderabad 155/2 in 17.4 overs (Abhishek Sharma 75, Kane Williamson 32, Rahul Tripathy 39 not out; Mukesh Choudhary 1-20, Bravo 1-29) by 8 wickets.
