Kannur: Malayali cricketer and former Indian team member S Sreesanth has been booked on a cheating complaint filed by a person in Kannur. Two others were also booked along with him on the complaint, Siasat reports.
The complainant is a native of Choonda, who accused Rajiv Kumar and Venkatesh Kini of taking Rs 18.70 lakh on various dates from April 25, 2019. The said amount was supposed to build a sports academy in Karnataka’s Kollur and Sreesanth is a partner in the project.
Complainant Sareesh Gopalan said he had invested the amount after he was offered a partnership in the academy.
The case has been registered under IPC Section 420 (Cheating and dishonestly inducing delivery of property). The cricketer has been named as the third accused.
Sreesanth had an illustrious career in the Indian team before he was banned from cricketing after a match-fixing case. He was in the Indian team for the two World Cup victories in 2007 and 2011.
