BCCI introduces prize money for women and junior cricketers in domestic tournaments

In a notable move aimed at encouraging and recognizing talent, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has announced the introduction of prize money for the player-of-the-match and player-of-the-tournament award winners in all women's and junior cricket competitions at the domestic level.

BCCI secretary Jay Shah shared this update on social media on Monday, highlighting the board’s commitment to promoting cricket across various levels.

Shah revealed that this initiative extends to men's cricket as well, with prize money being awarded for the player-of-the-match in the prestigious Vijay Hazare and Syed Mushtaq Ali tournaments. "We are introducing prize money for the Player of the Match and Player of the Tournament in all Women's and Junior Cricket tournaments under our Domestic Cricket Programme," Shah tweeted.

He further elaborated, "Additionally, prize money will be awarded for the Player of the Match in the Vijay Hazare and Syed Mushtaq Ali tournaments for Senior Men. This initiative aims to recognize and reward outstanding performances in the domestic circuit."

Shah expressed gratitude to the BCCI Apex Council for their support in implementing this initiative, stating, "A heartfelt thank you to the Apex Council for their unwavering support in this endeavour. Together, we are fostering a more rewarding environment for our cricketers. Jai Hind."

This announcement follows the BCCI's previous efforts to boost the financial incentives in domestic cricket. Last year, the board significantly increased the prize money for several domestic tournaments. The winners of the Ranji Trophy now receive a substantial cash prize of Rs 5 crore, while the Irani Cup champions' reward was doubled to Rs 50 lakh. The runners-up in the Irani Cup also saw their prize money increase to Rs 25 lakh.

In the Duleep Trophy, the champions now receive Rs 1 crore, with the runners-up earning Rs 50 lakh. Similarly, the Vijay Hazare Trophy winners are awarded Rs 1 crore, and the second-best team receives Rs 50 lakh.
