Vishakapatnam: Captain of the Delhi Capitals (DC) Rishabh Pant was fined for playing with a slow over-rate on Wednesday in the Indian Premier League (IPL) game in Visakhapatnam against the Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR). Against the Knight Riders at the Dr. Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy ACA-VDCA Cricket Stadium, the Delhi-based team was crushed by 106 runs. DC had two points and was ranked ninth in the IPL 2024 standings after the loss.

The DC captain was fined, the IPL said in a statement, since his team's over rate against Kolkata remained slow, ANI reported.

"Rishabh Pant, the Delhi Capitals captain, has been fined after his team maintained a slow over-rate during their Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024 match against Kolkata Knight Riders at the Dr YS Rajasekhara Reddy ACA-VDCA Cricket Stadium, Visakhapatnam on April 3," the IPL stated.

According to the league's code of conduct, it was stated that Pant was fined Rs 24 lakhs because it was his team's second offence of the season.

In addition to the captain, the announcement stated that other members of the Delhi-based team, including the impact player, had also been fined Rs 6 lakhs, or 25% of their individual match fees.

"As it was his team's second offence of the season under the IPL's Code of Conduct relating to minimum over-rate offences, Pant was fined INR 24 lakhs. The rest of the members of the Playing XI, including the Impact Player, were each individually fined either INR 6 lakhs or 25 per cent of their respective match fees, whichever is lesser," it added.

In summary of the game, DC bowed into pressure and lost by 106 runs as KKR's aim of 273 proved to be too much for them.

In the powerplay, DC was reduced to 33/4 by the pace duo of Mitchell Starc and Vaibhav Arora, who each claimed two wickets.

These early smashes ruined DC's strategy for pursuing the enormous total, which became increasingly difficult with each delivery.

They ultimately lost by 106 runs as the required rate proved to be too much.
