World Women's boxing championship; Mary enter quarter

New Delhi: Boxer Mary Kom on Sunday entered quarter-final of World Women's boxing championship, pinning Kazakhstan’s Aigerim Kassenayeva in the second round of the 48kg category.

Amid raucous cheers from her fans, Kom was declared winner after an intense three-round bouts at the packed Indira Gandhi Sports Complex here.

The Indian boxer had thoroughly beaten the Kazakh boxer at the final of Silesian Open in Poland earlier.

Kom will head to meet her Chinese rival Yu Wu on Tuesday.

The 35-year-old, mother of three, is currently tied with Katie Taylor of Ireland on five gold in the World Championships.
