Nine-year-old Fatimah Jafar Abdullah was doing her homework for school at home in Lebanon when she came to the kitchen. The pager on the desk beeps. She picks it up to give it to her father. The pager explodes while in her hand. She died with her face disfigured. Another explosion during her funeral; civilians were killed. Many more civilians including an 11-year-old boy were killed. Countless people suffered major and minor injuries. Children playing in the street lost their eyes. Mothers lost limbs while shopping at the supermarket. A vegetable seller died of head injuries. Houses and vehicles caught fire. Doctors were seriously injured in hospitals.
These are not accidents that happened without any one's intention. These are explosions carried out deliberately and with full knowledge of the consequences. Those who think that this electronic terrorism in Lebanon and Syria is a matter to worry only for those countries are in fool's paradise. While the pager is obsolete in many countries, the walkie-talkie is not. These radio devices, which are widely used in countries for transportation, security, etc., exploded in Lebanon the next day. Some were killed in this manner too. Mobile phones, laptops, solar cells and other communication and electronic devices used in everyday life by common people have been turned into terrorist weapons.
This can be done only by a violent group seized with demonic violence. They are the ones who research, organize and employ technologies meant to serve humanity into weapons of mass murder. They have opened new doors of violence not only in one region but all over the world. New weapons have been placed in the hands of thugs. Cyber technology has also been enabled for human rights abuses, war crimes and genocide. The world is strewn with fear and turmoil.
Who is this violent gang? One name that national leaderships, the media and the experts say with one voice is that of Israel. That country has not denied it either. It is clear that Hezbollah, which supports Gaza's freedom fighters, is the main target of the attacks. It is at the same time that Israeli Defence Minister Yoav Galant said that the 'the centre of gravity of the war was shifting north' – towards Lebanon - and that 'a new phase in the war' has arrived.
It was Israel who in 1996 killed Hamas weapons expert Yahya Ayyash in a cell phone explosion. It is a country that develops various technological tools like artificial intelligence, drones, algorithms etc. for destruction. There are reports that in Lebanon where Motorola 2024 pagers and mobile phones , which were used for the explosion, are extensively used, the only institution that does not use them is the American University of Beirut hospital and that they were removed from there a week earlier.
If reports that an American plane flew over Lebanon on the eve of the attacks are true, America is also on the list of suspects. A fake company in Hungary reportedly bought the licence for manufacturing and distribution of the devices, and filled them with explosives and sold them to Hezbollah and others in Lebanon. This is not a declaration of war against any nation or sect; it is an open threat to the entire world. Therefore, this calls for a thorough investigation and follow-up measures at the international level.
The root cause of the unrest facing the whole world is the occupation of Palestine by Israel, the racial discrimination they have been practicing there for decades and, most recently, the genocide that has been going on for nearly a year now. The United Nations has passed many resolutions against Israel, but that country has not complied with any of them. While international law which states that the Palestinian people have the right to resist the occupation and even carry out armed struggle for independence rests in paper, the Zionist state has taken the United States, Britain and Germany hostage and subservient to them, under the false claim of 'Israel's right to self-defence.
The US administration which has told Israel many times that if Israel crossed the redline it will stop all aid, has only drawn that line longer over and over again. And the extent of Israeli rampage has not only not abated, but it has intensified. Despite the fact that the World Court has initiated action against that country on the grounds of genocide, pliant countries like United States and others have not even thought of reducing arms sales to them let alone imposing sanctions.
