‘Can you identify Bangladeshi by looking at face’: asks Karnataka HC

Bangaluru: Karnataka High Court Chief Justice Abhay Shreeniwas Oka on Monday asked the state authorities how they could identify Bengladeshi by looking at face.

While directing the state government to rehabilitate those affected by the demolition of settlements in Bangaluru, the asked the question.

The court was hearing the plea filed by the People's Union for Civil Liberties challenging  the demolition of migrant settlements in the city on January 18 and 19. 

Reportedly, many residents in the migrant settlement were from states like Assam, West Bengal, Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, and even Karnataka.

The court came down heavily o authorities asking them on what basis the people were considered Bangladeshi.

The court will pass its final order on February 7.
