UAPA against Umar Khalid, others without evidence

New Delhi:  “We won’t respond to violence with violence, we don’t respond to hate with hate, when they spread hate, we will respond with love, when they beat us with lathi, we will hold on to tricolor” thus goes the speech by JNU leader  Umar Khalid delivered at Amaravati.

Delhi police cited this speech as a reason for filing UAPA charges against him alongside accusing him of inciting people to stall streets during President Trump’s visit.

UAPA was charged against Safoora Zargar and Meeran Haidar for participating in anti-CAA protest.

Delhi police in continuing vengeance against anti-CAA protesters, even in the midst of the nation's fight againt COVID-19, imposed UAPA charges against leftwing student leader Umar Khalid and Jamia Millia students the other day.

Delhi police, in effect, copied the allegations that had been raised by Home Minister Amit Shah, BJP lawmakers Meenakshi Lekhi, and Tejasvi Surya in Lok Sabha, goes the criticism.

However, United Against Hate ( UAH), of which Umar Khalid is a member, already responded to it with a statement.

When those in power try to divide India, people are ready to unify it, he spoke at Amaravati.

His speech, in truth, might have been based on non-violence, said UAH.

Senior advocate Prashant Bhushan came out against UAPA charges filed against Umar Khalid.

Dalit activist Jignesh Mevani said that the fight against fascist wouldn’t be over although activists were being hunted.
