Verdict On Ayodhya Before CJI Gogoi Retires?

New Delhi:  The Supreme Court has set the tentative deadline of October 18 for completing the arguments in Ayodhya title dispute case. This could give the bench that hears the case just a month’s time to pronounce judgment.

If it were not happening, the case would have to be heard afresh, because if a judge retires before a case is adjudicated, a new bench will take up the matter anew. Chief Justice Ranjan Gogoi retires on November 17.

The day-to-day hearing of Ayodhya case in Supreme Court started on August 6 this year.

Meanwhile, there will be holidays for Supreme Court during major festivals like Dussehra and Diwali, and the court will be closed for 15 days, besides Saturdays and Sundays before CJI Gogoi retires.

If the arguments are completed as planned, it would allow CJI Gogoi to pronounce a legacy judgment in a long continuing dispute, which still causes repercussions in India’s politics.
