New Delhi: CPM Central Secretary Sitaram Yechuri found himself in a tight spot on Monday as he evaded some key questions from press regarding the controversial UAPA charges on his party men and stand on Sabarimala issue.
He said that the government was bound to implement the UAPA in the state as regards the students facing UAPA charges.
However, the government and the party were seeking to provide the students as much consolation as possible.
The party stands for allowing women of all age groups to the temple; the party stand is same in the case of all places of worship in the nation.
The party has decided to seek clarity from the Supreme Court in the Sabarimala verdict.
Talking to press post politburo meeting, Yechuri had hard time defending his party on controversial issues.
He said that UAPA was widely missed in the nation. CPM is against UAPA, he said. However, it is a law and the government cannot go ahead without implementing it.
When asked it was not NIA but the state police brought UAPA charges on the students, he evaded the question passing the buck to the state government.
He was answerless when asked whether a pro-people government should implement the central laws as they are or take a more humane approach.
