Kashmir shuts protesting custodial death of school teacher

Srinagar: Following the death of a school teacher in police custody, tense situation prevailed on Wednesday in Sringar.

Separatists headed by Syed Ali Geelani, Mirwaiz Umer Farooq and Yasin Malik called for a shutdown protesting the incident.

Shutdown had shops and businesses closed through the day in places including busy Lal Chowk. Government offices marked slim attendance, while public transport remained off roads.

Meanwhile, the state administration ordered a magisterial probe into the death of 28-year-old Rizwan Pandith two days ago.

Rizwan, a principal at a private school in Awantipora, South Kashmir’s Pulwama district, was booked six months ago.
